TYPE: a Swedish ‘carriage-seat’ cushion / agedyna weaving — sold

CIRCA: 1850 or before

An rolakan (kilim-like) weaving  from the south of Skane in southern Sweden, with small birds resting in the branches of a tree as the central design (a tree of life as it were). Made specifically for use as a cushion on the seat of a carriage (i.e. horse and buggy). All natural dyes, beautiful fast colours with lovely abrash, although faded somewhat.
