A small sampling of carpets, of the many that passed through our hands while living in Kathmandu during the 1970’s and early 80’s, that were recently found amongst a box of long forgotten photos. Unfortunately nearly all the photos shown here were taken with a Polaroid camera and hence have not survived the passing of time well. The colours have changed and / or faded and in some cases the images have become ‘fuzzy’, and the coating on the photos themselves was often ‘cracked’. They were recently scanned and ‘adjusted’ as best as could be achieved for historical sake only. (Note how most of the carpets have the classic felt border that was / is all so typical of carpets used in Tibet – whether actually Tibetan made carpets or not – that were coming out of Tibet at the time.)
