TYPE: A Nepalese wooden mask  SOLD

CIRCA: Late 1800’s

A hand carved wooden mask from Nepal with a rather unique, somewhat stern looking facial expression and a piercing gaze. Masks such as this were used in dances and for ‘staged’ entertainment purposes. This particular piece was once completely painted, but the paint has mostly worn away over the years leaving a wonderfully deep lustrous patina. (From a private collection established in Kathmandu in the early 1970’s.)  ALREADY SOLD
