TYPE: A Tibetan over-saddle carpet with snow lions

CIRCA: 1920 / early 1900’s

An over-saddle carpet (masho) featuring two playful-looking snow lions chasing a central flaming jewel orb in an orange center field. The outer border, while no means rare, is somewhat uncommon in that it consist of dragons and peacocks – which are more often seen in the central field – on a red background. The inner border is of the T meander. All natural dyes, the primary colours of which suggest ecclesiastical use.
