TYPE: A Tibetan over-saddle carpet with snow lions

CIRCA: 1920 / early 1900’s

A Tibetan over-saddle carpet (masho) featuring two playful-looking snow lions chasing a central flaming jewel in an orange center field. The outer border consist of dragons and phoenixes on a somewhat more redish background while the inner border is the simple T meander. The size is 67cm x 56cm, the warp is cotton while the weft is wool. All natural dyes, the primary colours of which suggest ecclesiastical use.
