An elegant but subtle two-toned indigo blue Tibetan seating carpet featuring a dark blue central field set with light blue floral roundels surrounded by a light blue simple ‘T’ border. The pile is full with a subtle abrash, it has a cotton warp and a hand-spun wool weft (which is made up of both plain wool and variegated wool singles), and the dyes are all natural (from indigo). Of interest is that a red coloured wool single has been used in parts for the weft alongside the ‘normal’ non-dyed wool yarn. This use of a colour dyed weft is a deviance from the norm in Tibetan weaving and not often encountered. It was made circa 1920, the size is 77cm x 57cm and it is in very good condition.
