TYPE: A ‘GAU BOX’ / AMULET DESIGNED KHADEN

CIRCA: early 1900’s

A striking early khaden with the so-called ‘gau box’ or amulet design interlocking throughout the main field. A ‘Greek T’ main border is itself bordered by a narrow red pile border mimicking the often seen red cloth covered felt borders so beloved by Tibetans on their carpets. Minimum use of colour throughout – only two blues and a thin red border, all naturally dyed, and what appears to be un-dyed white and off-white wool – that still produces a strikingly mesmerizing carpet. Hand spun cotton warp and wool weft. Low but even pile throughout, otherwise in excellent condition with no repairs / reweaves.
