TYPE: Oval shaped under-saddle carpet

CIRCA: 1920’s

PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Please check back for more info or ‘contact us’ below.  🙂

NOTE. Although this saddle carpet was made in China itself (presumably the Suiyuan region, see more below*), it was sourced ex-Tibet (in the 1970’s), hence the red covered felt outer border, predominate on not only Tibetan saddle carpets, but on many Tibetan carpets. It could be removed if one so wished, the ‘example only’ photo showing what it would look like then. As stated, that is an ‘example only‘ photo, the border is currently intact / has not been removed.

*While the larger knotting speaks of a Ningxia origin, the lattice-like design is distinctly Suiyuan / Inner Mongolian. An example of an almost identically designed saddle carpet from Suiyuan can be seen on page 95, Carpets from China, Xinjiang and Tibet by Lennart Larsson Jnr.
