TYPE: Checkered Tibetan over-saddle carpet with ‘rice grain’ inner border

CIRCA: 1920 / early 1900’s

A beautiful masho / above saddle carpet (or possible a seating carpet / shugden) with a dark blue and white checkered center field surrounded by a narrow pearl inner border which is then encased by a wider secondary border of the so-called ‘rice grain’ design. The main outer border is a simple version of the (‘3D’) Greek T design but here superimposed with lovely red, pink, and white flowers. The dark blue squares in the center field are tiny, no large than 1cm square, most smaller. It appears to be all natural dues, and has wool warp and weft. Ends are original, they have just been turned down and secured (a not uncommon practice by Tibetans). First time on the market since collected in Kathmandu, Nepal in the early 1970’s. Overall in excellent condition.
