Tibetan ‘butterfly-shaped’ checkered makden, or under-saddle carpet. Black and white checkered center field, thin blue inner border, narrow black outer border. Circa 1920 with cotton warp and wool weft. (Note how dark brown wool has been used for a small section of the weft. This can be clearly seen as a darker strip in the left side panel of the full photo of the back of the carpet, and in the close up photos of the back side.) A strip of cloth has been sown around the edge on the underside of the carpet to stabilise against fraying. In excellent condition. ALREADY SOLD.
