A carpet from either the Baotou-Suiyuan or Beijing region of China with floral motifs. It has a single central mandala-shaped floral roundel and what seem to be small flower heads laid out in a geometric pattern in the blue center field, all imposed on a golden yellow background. Each corner is anchored with a ‘rams-horn’ like trellis that appears to grow out of / is physically linked to the center field design, a not-so-common depiction for corner motifs which usually ‘stand alone’. The outer border is of lotus flowers, and besides several guard stripes there are two secondary inner borders, one of pearls, the other with an unusual zig-zag pattern. It was made circa 1900 / the early 1900’s, has cotton warp and weft and is backed by a blue cotton cloth. On the whole the pile is good although there is some wear through the very center but there are no repairs or reweaves. Overall it is good condition.
